Before first use machine wash with unscented detergent.
Cloth should be boiled, to sterilize, before each use.
After use, rinse in cold water to remove any curd/cheese, then machine wash with unscented detergent.

In addition to making cheese, I also make wine. This muslin works great to drain whey without losing curds but works well to keep insects away from fermenting wine.
I am totally new to making cheese at 8 decades plus in age but remember my mother making a wheel of cheese that hung out on the waistline to cure. It was delicious. Decided to experiment and had no clue what "butter muslin" is, researched, and found your great product. It makes a "great jelly bag" too.
