Description

This buttermilk culture makes a thick, old-fashioned New England Style, Buttermilk. For each batch, you can use 1-2 quarts of skim or whole milk, depending on your desired thickness.

The amount of character (flavor, texture) can be customized by increasing or decreasing the setting time and/or temperature.

Storage
Store in the freezer for up to 2 years

Each of the five packets will make 1-2 quarts of buttermilk

Directions

  • Heat 1 quart of milk to 72ºF
  • Add 1 packet of buttermilk culture to milk, let rehydrate for 1-3 minutes
  • Stir milk for 1-2 minutes
  • Let set for 12-24 hours
  • Store finished buttermilk in a refrigerator for up to one week

Love this product!

I love being able to make buttermilk on my own counter without the thickeners/additives that come in store-bought varieties. It creates thick, delicious buttermilk that makes my pancakes fluffy and salad dressings and dips tangy.

This culture is fantastic.

I ordered this culture because the farm that was my original source of buttermilk went out of business. When I used this stuff in the whole milk I was able to buy from another farm, the overnight result was some of the thickest, tangiest buttermilk I've ever had. This culture is fantastic!

Great Buttermilk Culture

While looking for something other than lemon juice in whole milk, have tried the product and reproduced 'ole-world' buttermilk (as taught & remembered from the 1950's by immigrants-grandma!). Simple to use by following instructions. Takes one back to an Eastern Europe experience! Used in cheese making. Thanks, Cannot compare to 'any'store' bought product!
