Directions

How to recalibrate
Since the cheese making process happens at temperatures similar to our healthy body temperatures, a good quality medical thermometer can be used to calibrate your thermometer.

  1. Run warm water between 88-98F into a container deep enough to immerse both thermometers.
  2. Place thermometers in the water, check temperature readings once they have stabilized.
  3. If your new thermometer is not reading at the same temp as the medical thermometer, locate the nut found under the dial head.
  4. Using a wrench, turn the nut clockwise or counterclockwise as needed until the needle reads the same temperature as the medical thermometer.
  5. Repeat this process as needed.

Hard to read and hard to calibrate

The description of this is easy to read, but it is actually not very easy to be at all. I think that the gauge comes in fours? Do you have a marking for 20, 40, 60, 80 etc. but no mark indicating the halfway point. This is a very garbage thermometer

Very helpful item

I have been making my own cherve for five years now using New England cheesemaking products. Thanks to the starter kit, its been an easy and fun adventure! I lost my thermometer in a move and can't be without it so this is my second. It came in a timely manner and I'm back to making my own cheese and youghurt from a local grass fed cow! Thanks cheesecloth.com

Unusable

Very inaccurate. It went in the trash. It read 180 F when I checked it with boiling water. Water boils at 212 F. And, yes I gave it time to get up to 212. It never got close.

Loving this little thing

We have a small dairy and live in a tiny home. So we try to live minimally and have smaller products for use. So far I’ve been loving this little thing! It’s worked great for homemade yogurt and cheese. It easily and conveniently stores away.

Pocket Thermometer

It is a nice Thermometer. This only negative I have is the numbers are really small. I have one with a much smaller dial that has larger numbers.
