Fun and clever

Dang cheese is fun to make! Nothing like seeing a curd form for the first time. Instructions were a teensy vague sometimes, but overall a well worth buy.

Fun Exploration

I was nervous and excited when I got the beginning cheese kit at my door step. I was excited to see the variety of recipes in the recipe book included. The directions are straight forward with specific instructions. It is important to read them through completely and get all the supplies ready, then follow them carefully. The mozzarella I totally biffed the first time. It was fun figuring out why and trying again. The ricotta was quick easy and delicious with my stuffed pasta recipe. I have made the farmhouse cheddar and have it waxed and waiting to try in my cheese fridge. I have tried the Monterey jack and Parmesan style cheese and and waiting to see how it goes. I have tasted the curds on all of these and found them tasty. I am excited and love the science involved. I am going to be trying a cheese a week for a while. Thanks for my mini adventure at home.

Science at its best

It is quite interesting and fun to watch something simple as milk transform from liquid to a tasty solid. Not to mention by slightly changing the ingredients you change the flavors completely. I would suggest though that there are how to videos online to access for us who are visual learners.

Patiently waiting to taste

The kit contains almost everything to make a variety of cheeses. The instructions are good for a beginner. The cheese basket lacks a follower and plates, saucers, bowls were either too large, or left depressions in first cheese. So finally hppened on a wooden flat bottomed salad bowl for my next cheese. For aging the instuctions say to wax the cheese which was also not included. Creativity came with making a homemade cheese press and weights (with help of bathroom scale). And created my own molds. But I have been making cheese the entire month since I received the kit. I am hooked on making cheese unfortunately I haven't tasted any since they are all in the aging process. Today a triple creme cheese is being made and I will have opportunity to taste that in a couple weeks.
