Become a Certified Artisan Cheesemaker – virtually!

After expanding from in-person to virtual classes due to the Covid-19 crisis, The Art of Cheese revamps their certification program to include all students.

June 23, 2020 – The Art of Cheese cheesemaking school located on Briar Gate Farm in Longmont, Colorado, announced that they have expanded their certification program to include virtual students. This comes after owner and lead instructor, Kate Johnson’s, wildly popular expansion from in-person to virtual classes due to the Covid-19 crisis. There has been overwhelming participation in the virtual classroom, with students from across the United States and the globe, including Canada, Saudi Arabia, Australia, United Kingdom, India and Argentina. The Colorado cheese school determined that their certification program, previously only available for in-person participants, should be adapted to meet the growing needs of the virtual community.

The Artisan Home-Cheesemaker Certification program is overseen by Art of Cheese instructor and American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional® Kelly Liebrock. Ms. Liebrock is a former Art of Cheese student, cheesemonger, goat farmer and professional cheesemaker. She explains, “The Art of Cheese Certification program gives home-cheesemakers the opportunity to learn more about artisan cheesemaking, build community, and hone their skills, whether they’ve attended classes in-person or virtually.”

What Students are Saying
If you want to learn how to make cheese, this is the way to go! I took my first in person class here to learn how to make mozzarella and ricotta, and now, I have learned how to make so many others thanks to this remote learning option. A great way to enjoy making new foods at home during this time of isolation! ~ Sarah Beth in Thornton, CO

Kate’s cheese making classes are wonderful. I’ve taken several classes and every time I learn something new. The recipes are easy to follow and delicious. Kate really knows her stuff! – Caren B.

Kate’s online cheesemaking classes are lively, fun, and informative. She will inspire you in the art of crafting your own artisan cheese, as well as teach you the science behind successful cheesemaking. I highly recommend this class! ~ Kathy in Denver, CO

I have taken All of Kate’s classes! And I was inspired by all of them. So inspired that my husband & I have embarked on the journey to start our own cheese company. Kate is a wonderful instructor. I have had the opportunity to take three different cheese classes with Kate. The classes were all filled with great information about the different cheeses, and techniques that can easily be applied for making cheese at home. Kate clearly has a special gift for teaching, her passion comes through in every class. I love the classes, love the instructor and best of all, I love that I can make cheese at home! -Megan S.

I really enjoyed this series of classes. It was easy to follow and I felt confident I could make the cheeses and have success – and I did have success. My family loved each of the cheeses. The presentations were well planned and were focused on the home cheese maker. I highly recommend. ~ Nancy in Houston, TX

About The Art of Cheese

The initial inspiration for The Art of Cheese began with a childhood activity for Kate Johnson’s daughters who began raising dairy goats through the local 4-H program in 2008. Once their goats had babies, they had milk. Not knowing what to do with all that extra milk, she learned to make cheese. Eventually she furthered her knowledge with classes from several professional cheesemakers and began teaching her own cheesemaking classes as a hobby. Inspired by the enthusiasm she was seeing in her many students, Johnson decided to open a brick-and-mortar cheesemaking school in 2014. She is now an award-winning cheesemaker, dairy goat breeder, and writer/author about cheesemaking and goatkeeping. The Art of Cheese is dedicated to teaching people from all walks of life that they can make their own artisan cheeses at home. She tries to make the process simple, fun, educational and entertaining. Her classes help people to source the best milk and supplies for their cheesemaking, even if that means just a trip to the local grocery store.
